Ciclopirox is used to treat infections caused by fungus.
Ciclopirox cream, gel, or lotion are applied to the skin to treat:
- ringworm of the body (tineacorporis)
- ringworm of the foot (tineapedis; athlete's foot)
- ringworm of the groin (tineacruris; jock itch)
- “sun fungus” (tineaversicolor; pityriasisversicolor)
- certain other fungus infections, such as Candida (Monilia) infections.
Ciclopirox gel or shampoo may also be applied to the scalp to treat seborrheic dermatitis.
Ciclopirox topical solution (nail lacquer) is applied to the nails to treat ringworm of the nails (tineaunguium).
Ciclopirox is an anti-fungal medicine. It stops protein production in the fungal cells disrupting the cell division process. This is how it prevents further growth of fungi.

- Sudden hair loss (alopecia)
- Burning, itching, and irritation of the skin
- Dry skin
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless necessary.
This medicine is recommended for external use only. This medicine should not be applied to eyes, vagina, mucous membranes, etc.
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age unless prescribed by your physician.
