Pancreatin (Pancreatin systemic) is a digestive enzyme supplement. It is used in the treatment of pancreatic enzyme deficiency. Pancreatin has a primary function of helping to breakdown food and converts it into energy.

• It is particularly used to treat digestive disorders in those with pancreatic insufficiency (a condition in which the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes such as amylase, lipase or protease).
• It is also given to treat digestion problems caused in patients whose pancreases have been surgically removed.
• One disorder that causes pancreatic insufficiency is cystic fibrosis. In cystic fibrosis, thick, sticky mucus is released, which can clog up the pancreas (and other parts of the body such as the lungs). This mucus prevents effective secretion of pancreatic enzymes.

• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal pain (or cramps)

• Avoid taking an antacid at least an hour before taking pancreatin.
• Do not take Pancreatin if you are allergic to pork or any pig product.
• It can cause mouth irritation, so do not chew, crush, or hold it in your mouth. Swallow the medicine completely. 
• Inform your doctor if you experience severe or long-lasting abdominal pain.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
• Do not take any other digestive enzymes with pancreatin (unless prescribed by the health care provider).
