Gatifloxacin belongs to a group of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It
works by stopping the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This prevents
the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing them.
Gatifloxacin is used to treat eye infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis.
It is also used to treat lung infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, and
bronchitis.
