Etizolam

Etizolam is a benzodiazepine. It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA) which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.
It is marketed for medicinal use as a sedative-hypnotic drug with muscle-relaxing, insomnia-reducing, and anti-anxiety properties.
It has anxiety-reducing, sedating, anticonvulsant, and muscle-relaxing effects.

Uses

This medicine is used to treat and manage anxiety disorders characterized by agitation, hyperactivity, panic, sweating of palms, etc. under normal circumstances.
This medicine is used for short-term management of insomnia characterized by an inability to sleep along with associated symptoms like fatigue, irritation and memory loss.

Side Effects

Excessive sedation/sleepiness.
Depression
Confusion.
Impaired cognitive functioning.
Impaired coordination.
Changes to vision.
Slurred speech.
Libido changes.
Tremors.
Muscle weakness
Altered libido
Fainting
headache

Precautions / Concerns

Use of this medicine can cause suicidal thoughts and inclinations and hence it should be given with extreme caution in patients having mental problems like depression, phobias, chronic psychoses etc.
This medicine should be used with caution if you have an impairment of normal liver or kidney function.
Use of this medicine may cause drowsiness, confusion, impairment of thoughts and perception etc. It is advised to refrain from activities that require a high level of mental alertness after taking this medicine.
Use of this medicine in high doses can cause a fall in blood pressure leading to headaches, fainting etc.
The use of this medicine should not be stopped abruptly as you are likely to experience symptoms like convulsions, behavioral disorder, tremor, and anxiety. A gradual reduction in the dose quantity is advised
