Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It blocks an enzyme which is necessary
to change testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow.It helps
to shrink the prostate and relieve the symptoms like difficulty in passing urine.
Dutasteride is used alone or in combination, to treat men who have symptoms of an
enlarged prostate gland, which is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dutasteride helps improve urinary flow and may also reduce your need for prostate
surgery later on.
Chest pain and discomfort
Swelling of face and lips
Low sexual desire
Skin Rash
Abnormal ejaculation
Impotence
Breast discharge
Headache
It may take 3 to 6 months to see the full beneficial effect of Dutasteride.
Hence, continue taking the medicine as advised by your doctor.
Dutasteride is usually well tolerated. However, it may produce some mild
sexual side effects such as low sexual drive.
Do not donate blood for 6 months after taking the last dose of Dutasteride.
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver
disease or active liver disease due to an increased risk of liver injury.
Dutasteride is not recommended for use in women and children.
