When it comes to New Year resolutions, most of us do not hesitate from
setting dead on a hard nut. But whether or not New Year resolutions come
with a forget-me-not tag, we all fall off the resolute wagon as the first
month of the year draws to a close. As Oscar Wilde finely put it : "The
only thing I can't resist is temptations" !
However, much to the disbelief of many of us couch potatoes, there are some
motivated groups in the city who are keeping true to their resolutions much
beyond the first week of the year. Check out these fitness groups for a
healthier year ahead!
When: Thrice a week,
Arguably the most enthusiastic and eccentric in the city, this group has
helped make fitness look effortless and fun. The group meets on Tuesdays
for short runs, Thursdays for cross-fit workouts and Sundays for long runs.
The group meets at different locations and strives to explore nature and
our city surroundings. There is no age bar or threshold competency required
to join the group. This can be easily surmised from the group membership
which includes middle school kids and their grandparents alike; not to
forget the semi pro-full marathoners and barely running novices all running
in unison! All you need is a pair of shoes and an inclination to run.
Interestingly, the group celebrates each workout with a morning snack and
tea post-workout! So, be braced up to explore the city both fitness and
palate-wise! Find out more about the group on www.letsrun.us or look up
Letsrun on Facebook!
What: Yoga, duh!
When: All weekdays,
Where: Gandhi Udyan and other parks.
For those of you who strive for a more holistic approach to fitness, Yoga
is the deal for you. It not only nourishes the body, but also the mind and
the soul. While there are many fitness studios which offer Yoga around the
city, one should be careful about the quality of the trainers as form is of
paramount importance to derive the benefits of Yoga. Yoga Guru, Mr.G.N
Bhangla offers free classes every morning at Gandhi Udyan. He is a disciple
of Shri. Satyanandji from Munger and imparts wisdom
about work-life balance, and dietary habits apart from Yoga lessons.
When: Five days a week,
Where: In and around Raipur.
Founded a couple of months ago by a cycling enthusiast and bicycle shop
owner, this group is making waves in the city's sports arena. They cycle an
average of 30 kilometres on weekdays according to weather conditions.
Weekends entail longer routes and more fun! The group is awaiting formal
registration from the authorities and is also working on a Facebook page
for better communication with cycling enthusiasts from around the city.
Keep a watch of them on your side view mirror!
