Damaged Knee Joint: When Should You Consult Your Doctor?

Every knee joint requires a specialized care after an accident or trauma. And in my years of practice I’ve seen that this knee joint that needs special attention is often neglected. This could lead to catastrophic end results. Over a long time as an arthroscopic surgeon, I have rarely had patients who come for a timely consultation. Most people miss the right time for an orthopedic intervention and come after extensive joint damage.

Recently, I operated on a patient with grave complications of knee joint injury. She had come for a consultation and treatment after 3 years of an accident. On visualizing the joint, I found gross bony defects to my horror. Ha she come earlier, we could do an easy repair.

The young sports oriented population is more at risk. They often sustain knee injuries with ligament and meniscal damage (a common injury due to forceful twisting causing a tear in the knee).

Therefore, one has to understand that not all injuries heal spontaneously. Orthopedic consultation and surgery, if done on time, yields appropriate and satisfactory results. These are often finer and more acceptable than terminal stage treatments. A joint which is supposed to bear the weight of your whole body for the rest of life, should not be neglected. To avoid severe inconvenience in the future, it is always advisable to go for timely consultation. Never neglect disease symptoms of the knee joint, talk to your orthopedic or arthroscopic surgeon today!
